29. All the American tourists in Haarlem are explaining their gluten allergies
The American man at the counter asks if any of the pastries in the counter are gluten free. The first woman doesn’t know, and she asks the man beside her while he makes a coffee. The American man says, I have a gluten allergy. This is why I have to know.
After a short discussion it’s revealed none of the pastries in the case are gluten free. We’ve sold out, they tell him. He nods, not moving. I have a gluten allergy, he says again, this time it seems to no one in particular.
