Like most medieval cities, Haarlem’s cathedrals have rambunctious bell action. Unlike the other ones we’ve been to, the bells here belt out straight bangers.
The one of us with classical training is always on the cusp of identifying the songs. The other one just hears the clarion call of a house of worship, back when no one had the time on their wrist or slipped into a pocket supercomputer.
The bells ring on the hour(?) but also sometimes at the quarter-mark, and occasionally at some random o’clock, like god keeping us on our toes. You never know when he’ll be back. Be ready.
