For two weekends in November every year, Haarlem art studios open their doors to the public. These are private studios, the kind you probably see when you close your eyes and imagine someone painting in a room. There’s some very good art, some pretty bad art, and then a whole lot of absolutely mediocre art. Like, rich people who have beachside houses and run gift shops mediocre. Turns out when all of your basic needs are covered a thousand times over you can think about renting out the top floors of renovated factories to make really big paintings of gas stations.
